End Citizens United has a mission ahead of them and it may be one that is impossible to accomplish. Still, the team at End Citizens United are determined to make a difference in Washington D.C. when it comes to the problem of dark money pervading the world of politics. It is no secret that politicians are bought and paid for, at some level, by big money. You can see Republican Senators who receive millions of dollars in campaign funding from oil companies who will immediately go out and fight against clean energy for no other reason than a paycheck. Dark money is attacking the foundation of America and it may be up to End Citizens United to make the big difference.
End Citizens United is a political action committee that was founded in response to the 2010 Supreme Court Ruling which revolved around a conservative group by the name of Citizens United. Citizens United fought with the Supreme Court in order to loosen the strict financial regulations surrounding campaign financing. The results? The Supreme Court listened for some reason and now more and more politicians are being bought off, thus creating huge complications for Americans everywhere. Why would a politician stand behind their constituents if they get a check from a big oil company?
Tiffany Muller points to the election of Donald Trump in 2016 as a turning point in the work of her PAC. End Citizens United has seen an unprecedented raise in terms of donations and activity since Trump’s election and the reasons are pretty clear: people are furious that an unqualified big spender could get elected. President Trump has continued to blaze the destructive path of big money by hiring lobbyists at every level to work within the White House. Muller and her supporters at End Citizens United know that the very basic tenets of a free government are at stake here and that has given some sense of urgency to her task.
End Citizens United has seen record breaking donations over the first quarter of 2017 and those numbers are expected to continue rising. Through the first quarter of the fiscal year the team at End Citizens United saw over 100,000 donations pour into the PAC. Of those 100,000 donations, nearly half of them were from first time supporter. Having a huge influx of first time supporters is absolutely integral to a long living and successful PAC.
With supporters coming out in huge numbers Muller knows that it is time for her PAC to really get to work. End Citizens United has gone on to endorse 11 top Democrats who are all ready and willing to push the fight against Citizens United ahead of the 2018 Congressional Elections.
