Conquering difficult terrain is nothing new for Andy Wirth, CEO of Squaw Valley Ski, a world-famous resort in the Lake Tahoe region of California, globally recognized for hosting the 1960 Winter Olympics.
After earning a Bachelor’s degree in science at Colorado State University, Wirth worked as a wilderness ranger and as fire crew for the northern New Mexico fire-fighting group, the Hot Shots. He subsequently embarked on a lucrative career in managing and promoting resorts in 1986, starting with an internship at the Steamboat Ski and Resort Corporation.
He was named as CEO of Squaw Valley in 2010, immediately upgrading the resort infrastructure and facilities to better serve customer expectations and experience, and consequently bringing the ski resort into the top 20 percentile of customer satisfaction over the first year of his leadership.
Andy Wirth is also a dedicated philanthropist and environmentalist, serving as chairman of the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club and volunteer fireman for the North Routt Fire Protection District, both in Colorado, and several organizations in the Lake Tahoe area, including the non-profit environmental group Lake Tahoe Fund Board of Directors and the California Ski Industry Association’s Executive Committee.
